FAITH, a Space Opera RPG

FAITH is a science fiction roleplaying game of epic adventures, where starfaring alien civilizations race to explore a dangerous, unknown universe; while the Gods compete for followers; and the Ravager threaten civilisation as a whole.

It takes place in a far-future version of our universe, where sentient computers and space travel are a reality, and daring explorers carry high-powered plasma cannons and have their brains linked to formidable hacking devices.

POLITICS: A Delicate Truce

The technological, capitalistic Corvo, and the communal, progressive Iz’kal, aware of the dire consequences of a full-on assault, they try to expand their area of influence and collapse each other’s economy through fierce commerce and Black Op wars in far away planets.

RELIGION: The Five Gods

The Gods of FAITH are mysterious entities, or natural forces, which give supernatural powers to those that follow them. Becoming a follower is as simple – and as difficult – as living by the tenets of the God’s philosophy. 

EXPLORATION: The Labyrinth

Intergalactic travel is possible thanks to the Labyrinth, a network of wormholes – spacetime portals – that allow ships to cover light-year distances in a matter of hours.

WAR: The Ravager Menace

The Corvo and the Iz’kal managed to maintain a fragile peace, but now a war has sprung in their faces: the Ravager. In recent years, they have quickly become a threat to all other known life forms, forcing the Corvo and Iz’kal to reluctantly join forces against them.

Two other species – the resourceful Humans and the hardy Raag – have also achieved prominence as space pioneers.

Starfaring

Space travel is essential to the FAITH setting, and most adventures take place on remote worlds far from civilization. Such intergalactic travel is possible thanks to The Labyrinth, a network of wormholes – spacetime portals – that allow ships to cover light-year distances in a matter of hours.

One Setting, Four Flavours

The FAITH setting comes in four different flavours.

Two sentient species dominate the FAITH Universe – the technological, capitalistic Corvo, and the communal, progressive Iz’kal. The colonisation race between these two species has shaped their political, social and technological development, and their joint Coalition – created to resist the onslaught of the marauding Ravager species – is the single strongest military force in the known Universe. The other two prevalent species in the Universe, the militaristic Humans and the tribal Raag, are mostly known as mercenaries for either the Corvo or the Iz’kal in their galactic conflict.

THE CORVO

The CORVO

The Corvo civilisation is the largest and most powerful in the known Universe. They are a highly technified, capitalistic society, and almost all of their achievements are a consequence of free market, technocracy and entrepreneurship.

THE IZ'KAL

The IZ'KAL

The Iz’kal are a progressive civilisation that has built its power and stability on social and genetic engineering. They are single-minded and nonviolent, favoring the group over the individual and conformity over creativity.

THE HUMAN

The HUMAN

Having lost their civilisation to war and pollution a few centuries back, Humans are a fallen species, their world as wild and dangerous as the farthest frontiers of space. That’s why they use Humans as mercenaries and soldiers.

THE RAAG

The RAAG

A nomadic species from a barren world, the Raag are the strongest sentient species on galactic record. When compared to other species they are almost giant and are used for tasks that require brute strength.

Each of the species – and their home planets – allows you to live very different types of scenarios and adventures.

Cinematic System 

The system of FAITH works at its best in cinematic scenes that are action-packed while staying focused in the story. This is how:

IT’S AGILE

FAITH’s system is fast and furious: actions are successful by default, unless someone opposes them; and most conflicts are resolved with a single action or two: weapons are deadly and hacks are devastating.

IT’S ORGANIC

Characters are allowed to react outside their turn, keeping the entire group engaged in the action at all times. Dodge, shot back, hack your enemy’s weapon… never again wait for your turn while your opponents calculate their hits or misses.

IT’S VERSATILE

A single core mechanic works in most circumstances, with optional sub-systems ready to be used when you need more details about how a certain situation unfolds. Plus, these rules can be easily adapted to any setting you want.

Card Based Mechanics 

FAITH’s system sports card based mechanics using poker decks. Here’s why:

EFFORT, NOT LUCK

Each player has a hand of cards to use during tests. The cards coupled with the drawing mechanics represent the stamina of the characters, and will allow them to choose when to make a big effort (play high cards) or conserve their energies (play low cards).

ART ON THE TABLE

FAITH’s player decks are custom poker decks in four suits (Space, Nature, Urban and Operating System) numbered one through thirteen, and more importantly, beautifully illustrated to allow your group to fully immerse in the sci-fi universe of the game.

STRATEGIC GAMEPLAY

Go all out and spend all your high cards at once for an over-the-top victory, play conservatively to save your energies for unexpected complications later in the adventure; or find a more balanced approach. It’s in your hands!

Faith: Decks

You can play FAITH with a poker deck. If you want to truly immerse in the universe, though, you will find the following decks to be welcome additions to the roster. The Player Decks are custom pokers decks with beautiful illustrations of the universe of FAITH.  The NPC, Gear and Mixed Decks will help you create fascinating encounters for your players using the NPCs found in these decks, or equip your character with the powerful gear pieces. All the information you need to use each NPC or piece of gear is contained within its card and the illustration will provide a nice visual reference for you and your group.

These player decks are used to resolve confrontations and each card showcases a unique place in the Universe of FAITH with its corresponding suit.
